Club football has well and truly returned as Chelsea hit Peterborough United for six in their first pre-season match.

A second-half hat-trick from Hakim Ziyech, a brace from Christian Pulisic and a goal from Tammy Abraham saw Chelsea come back from 1-0 down to beat the Posh 6-1 at their training ground in Cobham.

Manager Thomas Tuchel played two different starting XI’s to spread as many minutes across the squad as possible – the terrifying thing is, he was still missing the bulk of his team.

Chelsea’s immense youth academy and their unconventional but effective approach to loaning players means they have a much bigger squad than most sides in the world.

However, after loaning Billy Gilmour to Norwich City, and with midfielders such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley uncertain to remain after loan spells at Fulham and Aston Villa respectively, the Blues are claimed to be on the lookout for new midfielders.

According to the Daily Express, their prime target Declan Rice is very keen on a move to Stamford Bridge from West Ham.

Rice started every match for England in Euro 2020.

The Hammers general has been on the Blues’ radar for a very long time, with previous manager Frank Lampard claimed to be desperate to sign the 22-year-old when he was in charge of the Blues.

Tuchel is allegedly very interested in the England star’s services, as he sees him as the perfect midfield partner to N’Golo Kante.

Rice, who also had an impressive Euro 2020 tournament, is also best friends with Mason Mount, having grown up together in the Blues’ academy, before Rice was released and picked up by West Ham.

Now the Stamford Bridge side are reported to be confident of securing a deal to bring Rice back to the club if they can agree a fee with the Irons.
