Manchester United’s Europa League rivals Fenerbahce are lining up a stunning move for Spanish playmaker Juan Mata, according to Turkish media outlet AmkSpor.
The 28-year-old has arguably been United’s best player this season under new boss Mourinho – this all after the uncertainty that the Portuguese’s appointment must have brought to Mata, given that Mourinho sold him at Chelsea despite twice winning the club’s Player of the Season award.
However, his four goals and one assist have been a rare shining light in what has been a low-key opening three months of the season for United, and it has unsurprisingly caught the eye of one European side.
That side is Fenerbahce, who beat United 2-1 three weeks ago, and currently top their Europa League group with seven points from their opening four games.
It has been reported that they attempted to loan the midfielder for the season in the summer, as they like many expected Mata’s United career to end with the arrival of Mourinho.
However, the 28-year-old’s impressive performances – he influences the big games against the other top six sides more than any other Premier League player – means he is a vital part of the United side, and it’ll take some serious money to lure him away from Old Trafford.
It remains to be seen whether Fenerbahce follow up their interest with a bid in January, but that interest isn’t going to go away if Mata continues to perform at a high level for United.
