Everton are reportedly hopeful of beating rivals AFC Bournemouth to the signing of Spain international goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

The Premier League side, who sit 11th in the current standings following their 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Sunday, are interested in recruiting the out-of-favour AC Milan shot stopper this January.

The 34-year-old, who earned his only international cap against Macedonia back in 2009, has failed to keep a single clean sheet in eight league appearances for the Serie A giants so far this season.

Lopez, the former Real Madrid number one who arrived at the San Siro back in 2014, has lost his first-team spot this campaign to highly-rated ‘keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is thought to be keen on signing another experienced shot stopper to provide competition for regular Everton number one Tim Howard, although Eddie Howe’s Cherries are also thought to be monitoring Lopez’s situation in Italy.
