Merseyside outfit Everton are looking to bolster their defensive options with the signing of Hull City centre-back Harry Maguire, according to The Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old has impressed in the Tigers backline this season, even though they have conceded 58 goals in the Premier League, and produced man-of-the-match displays in their loss at Chelsea and their 1-1 home draw with Burnley.

However, the former Sheffield United defender has turned down a new deal at the KCOM Stadium, and this seems to have alerted Ronald Koeman to his availability, as the Toffees boss is looking for fresh faces in his aging backline.

Club captain Phil Jagielka looks set to leave Goodison Park this summer after ten years on Merseyside, having started just two league games in 2017, while fellow centre-half Ramiro Funes Mori is set for a long spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury on international duty last week.

That leaves only Ashley Williams and youngster Mason Holgate as the other centre-backs at the club, and if the Toffees are hoping to sustain a challenge to the top six next term, they will need as many options as possible in the defensive area.

And although Hull are languishing near the foot of the Premier League, Maguire has impressed, and at 24 years of age, he also has a bright future in the game.

With Southampton and Middlesbrough also thought to be interested, Koeman will have to act fast to bring the Englishman to Goodison Park.
