Everton are reportedly closing in on the signing of FC Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

The former Arsenal man was on loan at Premier League rivals West Ham United last season, although new Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has failed to nail down a permanent deal for the 27-year-old at the Boleyn Ground this summer.

Song, who has 49 international caps for Cameroon, made 31 appearances in all competitions at West Ham last season under former manager Sam Allardyce.

However it is understood that Roberto Martinez’s Everton are on the verge of completing a deal with La Liga giants Barcelona for the defensive midfielder, at a knockdown price of around £3.5m.
