Everton are reportedly considering making a move to sign Denmark international goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Premier League side, who could only finish 11th in the English top-flight standings last term under former boss Roberto Martinez, have emerged as a potential suitor for the Leicester City stop stopper.

The 29-year-old, who has 22 international caps for his country, kept 15 clean sheets in 40 appearances in all competitions for the surprise title-winning Foxes last season.

Schmeichel, who still has two years left on his current deal at the King Power Stadium, is understood to have a release clause of £17m.

New Toffees boss Ronald Koeman wants the Danish star to succeed Tim Howard as the club’s new number one goalkeeper, despite already signing fellow goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg from Fulham during this transfer window.

The report suggests that Everton could look to double Schmeichel’s current weekly wage of £35,000-a-week in a bid to lure him to Merseyside.
