It has been a mixed start to the season with Everton, with four wins, five draws and three defeats, but their highlight came back at the start of September against the champions and, in particular, for their forward Steven Naismith.

The Scotland international, who was to celebrate his 29th birthday two days later, started the match on the substitutes’ bench, but replaced injured midfielder Muhamed Besic after just nine minutes.

Nobody would have believed what was to happen next though, as Naismith struck in the 17th and 22nd minutes to give the Toffees a two-goal lead, before securing a hat-trick, and the 3-1 win, with eight minutes to play.

He became the first player to score three times in the Premier League against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, and it will be a day that the Scot will never forget.
