England and Everton defender John Stones has been named in Manchester City’s Champions League squad, according to UEFA’s official website.

The Premier League side, who face Romanian outfit Steaua Bucharest in the play-off round first-leg on August 16, have been heavily linked with luring the centre-half to the Etihad Stadium ahead of the new 2016/17 campaign.

The 22-year-old, who has 10 international caps for his country and was part of the England squad at this summer’s European Championships in France, made 41 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees last season.

Stones, who arrived at Goodison Park from Championship outfit Barnsley back in January 2013 following his reported £3m switch, is wanted by new Citizens boss Pep Guardiola to strengthen his squad’s defensive ranks.

Interestingly UEFA’s website also shows that City trio Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony and Eliaquim Mangala are absent from the club’s squad list.

Captain Vincent Kompany is not named in the squad after undergoing thigh surgery.
