Everton picked up six points from a possible 18 in April as the protests against manager Roberto Martinez intensified, and although he didn’t play a part in all of the Toffees’ matches during the month, midfielder Tom Cleverley especially influential in their 2-1 win against Bournemouth – helping the club to their first Premier League win in 10 attempts.

Despite the frustration against Martinez from the club’s supporters in the final fixture of the month, Everton took the lead on seven minutes when Cleverley drove in a low shot to give the hosts the lead.

Marc Pugh soon equalised for the Cherries, but the former Manchester United man then set up team-mate Leighton Baines for the all-important winner, to relieve some of the tension around Goodison Park.

The victory might not be enough to save Martinez though, who looks to be heading for the exit door at the end of the campaign.
