Ross Barkley (England)
Before the weekend’s final Euro 2016 qualification fixtures, Ross Barkley had picked up 15 England caps, most from the substitutes’ bench, and Three Lions fans were still waiting for the Everton midfielder to make a real impact.
The 21-year-old was given the nod by Roy Hodgson to start Friday evening’s match against Estonia, and he didn’t disappoint. The Toffees star put in a man-of-the-match performance, and showed great vision to pick out Theo Walcott with a brilliant pass for the Arsenal forward’s goal.
He was rewarded with another start in the final group game against Lithuania, and produced another eye-catching display, scoring from a deflected striker and almost adding another with a header.
A powerful but elegant individual, Barkley is capable of the unexpected and could be a starter at the championships in France next summer on this form.
