Former England manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, has reportedly ruled out a move for Wayne Rooney, according to The Sun.

The 68-year-old, who was Three Lions boss between 2001 and 2006 and worked with the Manchester United forward in the international set-up, has been linked with a move for the Red Devils legend as he currently manages Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai SIPG.

However, Eriksson told The Sun, “Everyone knows how much I admire Rooney.

“That’s one thing. To make out we are going to sign him is something else.

“There is absolutely nothing in it, zero.

“It is not something we have ever even spoken about at the club — and we have been discussing our options for next season a lot.”

Rooney, 31, has scored one goal and provided five assists in 13 appearances in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s men so far this season.

The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford having failed to start the club’s last five Premier League fixtures.
