The international break has likely come at a good time for Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag after he saw his side beaten 3-0 by rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

The defeat was United’s second successive loss after being beaten by Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, and the result leaves the Red Devils 14th in the table going into the first international break of the season.

This summer was one of significant change at Old Trafford with several incomings and outgoings during the transfer window.

The likes of Scott McTominay and Raphael Varane departed the club, while Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro were among those to arrive in Manchester.

Now, one of the player that departed Old Trafford this summer has been offered a record-breaking contract elsewhere.

As per Sport24 via The Sun, former United striker Anthony Martial has been offered a club-record contract by Greek side AEK Athens.

Martial left United at the end of last season

The report claims that the Super League side have offered Martial a deal that would see him earn more than their current highest earner – former Tottenham Hotspur attacker Erik Lamela.

Argentina Lamela is believed to earn around £2.1 million annually, but the report claims that Martial has been offered a higher salary.

Martial, 28, left United at the end of last season when his contract with the club expired, ending a nine-year spell at Old Trafford.

He scored 90 goals in 317 games for the Red Devils across all competitions, but his form and game time dwindled during the last few years of his time in Manchester and he remains a free agent at present.

It is claimed that AEK are also close to signing Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana, who is unlikely to be involved with Enzo Maresca’s first team squad this season and is therefore looking for a move away from Stamford Bridge.
