Virgil Van Dijk will be the next man to make the switch from Southampton to Liverpool, according to former Portsmouth and Newcastle striker, Micky Quinn.

“I believe they’re interested in Van Dijk, when the transfer window opens up,” Quinn, who is now a scout at Wigan, told talkSport.

“They love a Southampton player, they’ll probably go back again.”

The Dutch international, who joined the Saints from Celtic as a replacement for the on-loan Toby Alderweireld, who opted to join Premier League rivals Tottenham on a permanent basis, last summer.

Since his arrival, the imperious centre-half has looked one of the best signings in the Premier League, rarely putting a foot out of place and forming a key part of an impressive back line under both Ronald Koeman and Claude Puel.

Unfortunately for the St. Mary’s faithful, although Quinn’s claim seems more of an assumption, he is probably not far off considering that the transfer committee on Merseyside seem to have something for players from their club.

Over the past few seasons Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Saido Mane have all swapped the Solent for the Albert Docks, and a betting man would probably put a hefty amount on more following suit.
