FA Cup Round-Up: Four non-league clubs in third round draw

Eastleigh are one of four non-league clubs in the FA Cup third round draw, but the only one to have definitely secured a tie in the next stage, after they knocked out Northern Premier League side Stourbridge 2-0.

Second half goals from James Constable and Josh Payne secured the Hampshire side’s place in the third round for the first time.

Whitehawk could also yet be in the third round for the first time after a late goal secured them a replay following a 1-1 draw at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Jamie Cureton put the League Two Daggers in front with just five minutes played, but substitute Jordan Rose’s injury-time header snatched the Brighton-based side a second bite of the cherry next week.

Salford City are the third non-league outfit in the third round draw after their 1-1 draw at home to Hartlepool on Friday night.

In another impressive performance from the Ammies, Stephen O’Halloran equalised after Rhys Oates’ penalty had put the League Two side ahead with just eight minutes on the clock.

On Monday, National League side Grimsby drew 0-0 with League One Shrewsbury.

The Mariners now face a replay at New Meadow next week to see who will advance to play 2008 finalists Cardiff City.

The lowest ranked side in the second round, Northwich Victoria, suffered heartbreak as Northampton scored three late goals in four minutes to snatch a 3-2 victory.

Town, who are third in League Two, found themselves 2-0 down with 82 minutes on the clock after Jimmy Ball and Richard Bennett gave the Vics a surprise 2-0 lead.

But quick-fire goals from Sam Hoskins, Jason Taylor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin saved Chris Wilder’s side.

Alrtincham also suffered late heartbreak after a last minute goal saw Colchester United win 3-2 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, despite going ahead twice in the match.

Callum Harriott, who scored the U’s first equaliser, fired home in injury-time to see of the spirited Greater-Manchester club.

The FA Cup journey is also over for Chesham United, who lost 4-0 at last year’s quarter-finalists Bradford City.

Goals from Kyel Reid, James Hanson, Gary Liddle and Devante Cole saw Phil Parkinson’s side comfortably advance to the third round.

National League high-flyers Forest Green couldn’t follow up their victory over AFC Wimbledon in the last round as they lost 1-0 at League Two leaders Oxford United; Kemar Roofe’s goal 14 minutes from time enough for Michael Appleton’s side.

In South London, another National League side were knocked out by League Two opposition as Carlisle United cruised to a 5-0 victory at Park View Road thanks in large to a Charlie Wyke hat-trick.

Back to the surprises of the round, and 2004 finalists Millwall were knocked out by League Two Wycombe 2-1 at the New Den; Michael Harriman’s late strike earning the Chairboys an impressive win.

Fellow fourth-tier side Exeter also knocked out League One opposition as the Grecians saw off Port Vale 2-0 at St James Park; Jordan Tilson and substitute Ollie Watkins sealing City’s progress.

Luton and Cambridge couldn’t follow Wycombe and Exeter in beaten League One opposition as they were beaten 2-0 by Peterborough and 31 by Doncaster respectively.

In the two all League One matches, Bury beat local rivals Rochdale 1-0 thanks to a Danny Rose goal, while four-time winners Sheffield United defeated Oldham 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

There were also three all League Two fixtures as 2008 winners Portsmouth advanced to the third round after beating Accrington 1-0, Newport won by the same scoreline at Barnet, while bottom side Yeovil defeated Stevenage 1-0 in their first match since boss Paul Sturrock left the club.

Elsewhere, replays will be needed for Chesterfield and Walsall, who drew 1-1, and Leyton Orient and Scunthorpe, who played out a goalless draw.
