There has been plenty of speculation over the future of the England international, with the signing of Victor Wanyama last summer having pushed him down the pecking order in the midfield this season.

The absence of the former Southampton midfielder in recent weeks has allowed Dier to return to his favoured position, however, with the Kenyan set to return today he could well be out of the limelight again.

To say that would be harsh on Dier is an understatement. The former Sporting Lisbon man has been fantastic under Pochettino, and the rumours linking Jose Mourinho with a move for the 24-year-old show just how valuable he is. Dier deserves the chance under the arch.
