Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in signing German midfielder Mesut Özil, according to Fotomac.

The Turkish outfit, who finished second in the Super Lig standings last term, have been linked with a move for the Arsenal star ahead of the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old, who has 92 international caps for Germany, but has retired from international duty as of this summer, has started three of The Gunners’ four Premier League matches so far this season under new manager Unai Emery.

Özil, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium back in September 2013 following his then club-record £42.5m move from Real Madrid, has scored 37 goals in 199 appearances in all competitions for the North London club overall.

However, the report claims the central midfielder has emerged as a transfer target for Fenerbahce ahead of the New Year market.

Özil’s future at Arsenal has been plunged into doubt this campaign having struggled to adapt to boss Emery’s high work ethic, despite signing a new deal worth a whopping £350,000-a-week at the end of last season.

He is contracted at the Emirates Stadium until June 2021, and is valued at £40.5m.
