Arsenal enjoy an extended break this weekend as they don’t feature in the FA Cup third round.

The Gunners were dumped out of the competition by Premier League title rivals Liverpool in the last round, meaning that Mikel Arteta’s side don’t play again until hosting Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, January 30.

In the meantime, manager Mikel Arteta will be working hard to identify possible transfer targets.

The Gunners are yet to sign a senior players so far this month, and it appears that they may now be unable to move for one of their top targets.

According to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad via Football London, financial constraints may prevent Arsenal from moving for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

The report claims that the 22-year-old is a target for the Gunners and that talks have taken place between the two clubs, however Arsenal’s finances may limit their ability to make a move for the player this month.

Onana is a target for Arsenal, but the Gunners are unlikely to be able to afford a deal this month

Onana joined the Toffees from French side Lille in the summer of 2022, having made a total of 42 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Since arriving on Merseyside, the Belgian has played 58 times across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Onana has made 23 appearances so far this season, including 17 in the Premier League.

The nine-time Belgium international is contracted to the Goodison Park outfit until 2027, but it remains to be seen whether or not he will stay put at the club until then.

Last summer, Arsenal spent significant sums of money on recruiting new players, most notably Declan Rice who joined from West Ham United in a deal worth around £100 million.
