Nottingham Forest hope to sign Lille striker Michael Frey on a season-long loan deal.

The Switzerland Under-21 international. who was linked with a move to West Ham last summer, has found opportunities hard to come by at the French club, starting just seven league games last year due to injury and a loss of form.

Now the Ligue 1 outfit are keen to give the 21-year-old some much needed game time which alerted the Championship side who invited the forward over to watch their 4-3 defeat to Walsall in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Despite being in attendance at the City Ground, Reds boss Dougie Freedman remained cautious when asked about Frey after a deal to bring Ben Hamer to the club was cancelled due to Forest’s ongoing Financial Fair Play issues.
