Mikel Arteta’s first full spell as Arsenal manager had its moments but finished under a dark cloud.

While the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe did make their break throughs and impressed many this season, the very fact the Spaniard’s first full season ended with the club missing out on Europe for the first time in 25 years, means it is arguably a season of failure.

Saka and Smith-Rowe will likely be at the heart of any recovery for the Gunners next season as a lack of funds and resources could mean Arteta has to turn to the youth next season.

However, one impressive youth player who was tipped for big things has been absent for the Gunners for the best part of two seasons.

Matteo Guendouzi started well when he first debuted for the North Londoners in 2018; however, attitude problems saw the frilly haired Frenchman loaned to Hertha Berlin last season.

According to The Daily Mirror, his time at Arsenal has come to an end as the Frenchman is set for a permanent move to Marseille.

The 22-year-old said his goodbyes to Hertha Berlin team mates on his Instagram account and then announced he would be leaving the Emirates straight after.

“Thank you Arsenal. Thanks for everything!” said Guendouzi on his Instagram account.

“I discovered and learned so much during my time here. It would be impossible to list everything without forgetting one memory or word… but I will never forget any minute spent with the Gunners jersey.

“I will never forget the Emirates Stadium. I will never forget the fans. I won’t forget the city.”
