Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has stepped up his interest in current Red Devils defender Eric Bailly.

The Portuguese signed the player for United back in 2016 and is now interested in a reunion with the Ivorian at current club Roma.

As reported by The Mirror, the defender could be available for less than £10 million this summer having fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The Ivory Coast international, who cost United £34 million when he joined from Villarreal, has struggled for game time over the past couple of seasons and that will only be made worse by the arrival of Lisandro Martinez.

Bailly could be on his way to reunite with former boss Mourinho in Rome

Mourinho is aware of the situation, and is now considering making a move for the player.

Roma could make an offer for the 28-year-old before the window closes, with Mourinho hoping to pair him up with fellow ex-United man Chris Smalling.

The Englishman made the move to the Italian capital three years ago, initially on loan, and is now thriving in Serie A.

Bailly was a regular under Mourinho in Manchester, making 39 appearances across all competitions during his first season in England.
