Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be looking to bolster his squad this summer ahead of a Champions League campaign next term.

The Spaniard came close to guiding the Gunners to a first Premier League title in two decades last season, before the north London outfit were eventually beaten to the title by Manchester City.

Despite narrowly missing out on the title, Arsenal did qualify for the Champions League for the first time in seven years, and Arteta will therefore be looking to add new signings to his squad.

Several players have been linked with a move to The Emirates, but it appears that the club have now agreed a move for a former Premier League midfielder.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Southampton star Romeo Lavia.

The central midfielder was in sensational form for the Saints last season despite their relegation from the top flight, but it appears that he could be on his way back to the Premier League very soon.

It is claimed that the Gunners have reached a verbal agreement with the player and are now ahead of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign him.

A fee in the region of £50 million would reportedly be enough to complete a deal for the player.

Lavia, 19, joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer and made 34 appearances across all competitions last term.

The Belgian midfielder was one of Saints’ most impressive performers, but his performances didn’t go unnoticed and it appears increasingly likely that he will depart St. Mary’s this summer.

Arsenal are in the market for at least one central midfielder with a number of their current stars being linked with moves away from the club.

Granit Xhaka is expected to complete a move to German side Bayer Leverkusen in the coming weeks, and more recently his midfield partner Thomas Partey has been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabian Pro League clubs.

Arsenal did sign Jorginho from rivals Chelsea in January, but it appears that Arteta is still keen to bolster his options ahead of the new season.
