Chelsea’s hopes of winning a trophy this season faded after they crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday following a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid.

Frank Lampard’s side lost 2-0 in both legs of the Champions League quarter-final against the Spanish giants.

The Blues currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League table and find themselves stuck in a winless streak of seven games, which has caused the club to come under pressure from the fans.

Chelsea will be eager to bounce back to winning ways when they play Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Todd Boehly and the rest of the Chelsea board decided to sack Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter due to poor form before they hired Frank Lampard to take the reins until the end of the season.

However, in this current reign, Lampard has lost every match.

Chelsea spent more than £500 million on players this season, which prompted high expectations from the club’s supporters.

Boehly’s manager search has taken a turn recently, leaving one candidate as the favourite for the job.

According to the Telegraph, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as the leading candidate for the role after Julian Nagelsmann dropped out of the race.

The 51-year-old was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain last summer, despite helping the French giants win a Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France.

The Argentinian built a strong reputation after he switched from Southampton to Tottenham in 2014.

Pochettino spent five years in North London and transformed the Lillywhites into one of the most exciting teams in England.

The Argentinian dragged Tottenham to a third-place finish and a second-place finish.

He also helped Spurs reach one of the biggest games in their history, the 2019 Champions League final.

Pochettino has built a reputation for helping young talent develop after helping players like Dele Alli reach their prime at Spurs.

If the 51-year-old joins Chelsea, he will have a plethora of young and exciting talent to work with including Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoît Badiashile and Enzo Fernandez.
