Brentford have announced confirmation of the signing of former Premier League star Christian Eriksen on a short-term deal.

The Bees announced the news on Twitter on Monday morning, after weeks of speculation that the Dane would return to England.

Eriksen has not played professionally since suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening group match at Euro 2020 last year.

The midfielder has been contracted to Inter Milan at the time, however he left the Italian side by mutual consent last month due to a rule that prohibited him from playing with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

The 29-year-old has spent six years in the capital with Tottenham Hotspur, but left the club in 2020 to join Inter.

Eriksen hasn’t played in the Premier League since 2020

He was part of the team that won the Serie A title last season under now-Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

Bees manager Thomas Frank hailed the Denmark international as a ‘world class player’.

“We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a world class player to Brentford,” Frank said.

“He hasn’t trained with a team in seven months but he has done a lot of work on his own.

“I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level.

“At his best, Christian has the ability to dictate games of football.”

Frank worked with Eriksen while in charge of the Denmark under-17 side earlier in his career.

The midfielder scored 69 goals and provided 90 assists in 305 games for Spurs.
