With bitter rivals Manchester United dominating the headlines, Liverpool have appeared to fly under the summer transfer radar.

After a season taken over by injuries, poor form and horrible luck, their first ever Premier League title defence crumbled and turned into one of European survival.

The fact they finished third, a strong position of strength most seasons, is perhaps one of Jurgen Klopp’s best ever achievements since he took over at Anfield in 2015.

They have already secured the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, adding much needed cover and strength to an area where they lost three first choice defenders in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.

Konate’s performances in pre-season have even drawn comparisons to the imperious Van Dijk, with Reds fans believing they have found the perfect partner to the Dutchman.

However, Liverpool have allegedly been dealt a blow as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal to sign Reds target Donyell Malen from PSV Eindhoven.

Malen had an outstanding 2020/21 campaign for club and country.

The 22-year-old winger impressed in Euro 2020 for the Netherlands, recording two assists in four appearances for the Dutch.

He also enjoyed a fantastic season for PSV, firing 27 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for the Eredivisie side.

A former youth product of Arsenal, the striker enjoyed a magnificent breakthrough campaign last year, which is claimed to have impressed Klopp and the rest of the Liverpool scouting team.

Unfortunately for the Reds, they will likely have to look elsewhere as Romano claims paperwork has been signed for the striker to join Dortmund.

With Erling Haaland attracting interest across Europe, it is very possible Malen could be the person to fill the Norwegian’s shoes, should he depart the Signal Iduna Park this summer.
