France defeated Germany 2-0 in the Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday evening.

Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise earned Les Bleus victory over their old rivals, with the former netting his 50th goal for his country at senior level in just his 90th appearance.

Winger Rayan Cherki made his first start for France on Sunday, having made his debut during a 5-4 defeat against Spain in the semi-finals last week.

Cherki had scored and provided an assist during the entertaining encounter, and his performance earned him a full debut against Germany.

Now, it has emerged that the Frenchman is on his way to the Premier League.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 21-year-old is set to travel to England on Monday before undergoing a medical ahead of a move to Manchester City.

Cherki has been in fine form for current side Lyon this term, netting 12 times and providing 20 assists in 44 matches across all competitions.

That form appears to have attracted interest from the Citizens, with Romano claiming that the player is set to sign a contract with the Premier League side on Tuesday after completing his medical.

Romano also claims that City will pay Ligue 1 side Lyon an initial fee of around £30 million, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons.

City are also planning to include the attacker in their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup which takes place in the United States later this month, the report claims.

Having emerged through Lyon’s academy, Cherki has now played more than 180 times for the French side across all competitions, registering a combined 84 goals and assists.

He is under contract with his boyhood club until the summer of 2026, but it appears increasingly likely that he will be on his way to The Etihad this summer.
