Tottenham Hotspur wil hope to defend their 1-0 first leg lead when they face Liverpool in the second part of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday.

The Lilywhites have endured a dismal season so far but returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday, and head coach Ange Postecoglou will hope to see his side pick up where they left off when they visit Anfield.

Despite their slender advantage, Spurs will likely go into Thursday’s match as outsiders to reach the Carabao Cup final, with Premier League leaders Liverpool having been in sensational form for the entirety of the season so far.

Away from the action, it appears that Tottenham are closing in on the signing of a highly rated Bundesliga youngster.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has signed a contract with Tottenham ahead of a loan move to North London.

Tel is set to join Tottenham on loan for the rest of the season

The Italian claims that the 19-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a loan move to Spurs, which will also include an option-to-buy clause meaning the London side will have the opportunity to sign the player permanently this summer for a fee of around £50 million.

Tel is said to have completed a medical with the Lilywhites on Monday, and he will now join Postecoglou’s squad ahead of their game against Liverpool on Tuesday.

The teenager joined Bayern from French outfit Rennes in 2022 and has since played 83 times for the club at senior level, scoring 16 goals and registering seven assists.

Spurs will pay the player’s wages in full during his time in London, Romano claims, but it remains to be seen whether or not they will activate the opportunity to sign him permanently this summer.

Tel is a versatile attacker capable of playing on the left flank or centrally.
