Tottenham Hotspur face fellow Premier League side Burnley in the FA Cup third round on Friday evening.

The Lilywhites enjoyed a superb start to the season and, after a five game winless run towards the end of last year, have recently improved.

Having lost talisman Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer, Spurs have been relying on captain Son Heung-Min to spearhead their attack.

They will be without the forward for the next few weeks, though, as he represents South Korea at the Asia Cup.

Now, it appears that Bayern could be looking to sign another of Tottenham’s players.

According to The Standard, the German champions have sounded out a potential move for Spurs defender Eric Dier.

Bayern, now managed by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, are keen to bolster their defensive ranks this month and the England international has emerged as a potential target.

Dier has emerged as a surprise target for Bayern Munich

Dier, 29, joined the Lilywhites back in 2014 from Portuguese side Sporting CP and has since made 364 appearances for the North London club across all competitions.

The Englishman played a pivotal role for Spurs for several seasons, but has fallen out of favour since Postecoglou’s arrival last summer.

He wasn’t involved in any of Tottenham’s first ten Premier League games this season, and has played only four times in the competition since then.

Dier is also set to be out of contract at the end of the current season, which means he is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club from this month onwards.

With the player not part of Postecoglou’s plans, the report claims that Spurs would be willing to let him leave during the current transfer window.

It is also claimed that Dier’s versatility is appealing to Bayern, with the defender able to play at centre-back, right-back, or as a defensive midfielder.
