Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has agreed terms with Manchester City ahead of a move to the Premier League champions, according to reports. 

As per 90min, the German is set to sign for the Citizens on a free transfer after his contract with his current side expires at the end of June.

The 29-year-old is expected to become Pep Guardiola’s back-up goalkeeper, replacing Zach Steffen who will likely depart on loan for the upcoming season.

Veteran ‘keeper Scott Carson recently penned a new deal with the club, but will remain City’s third choice for the remainder of his time in Manchester.

Ortega looks to be on his way to the Premier League

Ortega is highly regarded in Germany and was close to being involved in the national team squad for Euro 2020, having been named as one of the players on standby incase of injury.

The former 1860 Munich man posted a farewell message to fans of Bielefeld on social media, thanking them for their support during his time with the club.

“Thank you [Arminia Bielefeld]! It’s time to say goodbye. I wanted to thank Arminia Bielefeld for an incredible 12 years. It was an indescribable journey in which I developed enormously both as a sport and as a person,” it read.

Last season, Ortega kept six clean sheets in 33 Bundesliga games.
