Chelsea play their final pre-season friendly of the summer when they face German side Borussia Dortmund  in the early hours of Thursday morning.

So far this summer, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have beaten Wrexham, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Fulham, as well as drawing with Newcastle United.

It has been a period of huge change at Stamford Bridge, though, with several senior players departing the club during the current transfer window.

Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta and N’Golo Kante are among those to have left West London in recent weeks, while Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have arrived.

Now, the Blues have been boosted by the news that one of their young stars has committed his future to the club.

It was announced on Wednesday that young defender Levi Colwill has signed a long-term contract extension, keeping him at the cub until 2029.

Colwill has committed his long-term future to Chelsea

Colwill, 20, spent last season on loan at fellow Premier League club Brighton and was hugely impressive on the south coast, making 22 appearances across all competitions.

The centre-back has been the subject of interest from other clubs this summer, though, with Brighton and Liverpool among those interested in signing the Englishman permanently.

Despite interest from elsewhere, the former Seagulls loanee has now committed his future to Chelsea and looks set to be a part of Pochettino’s squad for the upcoming season.

It was unclear whether or not Colwill would be given the chance to impress during the upcoming season, but he has featured regularly during pre-season and now looks likely to play an important role.

His chances of featuring regularly may have also improved following an unfortunate injury suffered by fellow central defender Wesley Fofana last month, with the Frenchman now set to miss several months after undergoing surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.
