Manchester City will continue the defence of their Premier League title when they travel to face Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

The Citizens currently sit second in the top flight table, a point behind leaders Liverpool.

Manager Pep Guardiola had been heavily linked with the vacant England job over recent weeks, before it was announced that former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel would succeed Gareth Southgate.

In the wake of the news, it appears that City could soon be handed a huge boost.

As per Football Insider, the City boss is now likely to sign an extension to his current contract, which is set to expire next summer.

The Spaniard is currently in the final year of his contract at The Etihad, which had prompted widespread rumours about him potentially taking over as England manager next summer.

Guardiola could sign a new contract with Manchester City

It is claimed that England had approached Guardiola about the possibility of taking the role, but the former Barcelona boss rejected the idea.

He is now likely to sign a 12-month extension to his current contract, it is claimed.

Guardiola, 53, took charge of Man City in 2016 and has since won no fewer than 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League, as part of an impressive treble during the 2022/23 campaign.

Since taking charge of the club, Guardiola has overseen an impressive 357 wins from 482 games across all competitions, drawing a further 60.

His side have scored more than 1,200 goals during that time, while conceding just 435.

The report suggests that Guardiola would consider a move into international management in the future but, at present, the FA were not able to lure him away from City as it would have proved too expensive.
