Chelsea will be hoping to dent Manchester United’s Champions League hopes when the two sides meet at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The Red Devils need just one point from their final two matches to secure a place in the top four of the Premier League, while the Blues currently sit 12th in the table.

Interim manager Frank Lampard is set to depart Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and it appears that former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino will succeed the former England international.

Now, it appears that the Argentine could already be working at the club ahead of what promises to be a busy summer.

As per Football Insider, Pochettino has already started working behind the scenes at Chelsea, despite his appointment as the club’s new manager having not yet been confirmed.

The report claims that the 51-year-old has been busy identifying potential targets ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Lampard took temporary charge of Chelsea in April

Chelsea are yet to appoint a permanent successor to Graham Potter, who was sacked in April after a dismal run of results that included just four wins in 19 Premier League matches.

This summer looks likely to be one of significant change with several players likely to depart and a number of players having been linked with a move to west London.

Since taking charge of the club last summer, owner Todd Boehly has spent more than £500 million on 16 new signings.

Pochettino will therefore likely look to trim the squad during the summer window, although he will undoubtedly also be keen on recruiting new signings.

The ex-Southampton manager will officially take charge of Chelsea next month, the report claims, and next term he will be able to focus solely on domestic competitions as the Blues have failed to qualify for any European competition.
