Manchester United players have been told that Erik Ten Hag’s appointment as the club’s new manager is imminent, with the Dutchman set to take over at the end of the season.

The current Ajax boss will succeed current United manager Ralf Rangnick, who is fulfilling an interim role before stepping back to become a consultant next season.

The 52-year-old will have been far from impressed with United’s latest outing, as they were humiliated 4-0 at the hands of rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils have now lost by an aggregate score of 9-0 to Liverpool over the course of their two league games this term, and now face Arsenal and then Chelsea with their hopes of securing a top four finish hanging by a thread.

According to reports, though, the incoming boss is set to be handed a huge budget to oversee a summer overhaul of the current squad.

As per The Mirror, Ten Hag will be given £200 million to recruit reinforcements ahead of next season, while a number of current players will be allowed to leave.

The report claims that Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Lee Grant will all leave the club when their respective contracts expire in the summer, having made just eight Premier League starts between them this season.

Paul Pogba is expected to be the most high profile departure from United, with the Frenchman likely to end years of speculation over his future by moving on when his deal expires.

Rashford could be one of a number of departures at United this summer

Nemanja Matic, whose contract also expires at the end of the season, has recently admitted he will leave the club, while a number of other players will also be sold.

Alex Telles could be sold having failed to establish himself as the club’s first choice left-back, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka could also leave after falling behind Diego Dalot in the pecking order.

Centre-backs Phil Jones and Eric Bailly could also both be sold, with at least three other defenders ahead of the pair in the pecking order.

Two more surprising players listed are Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who could apparently both be sold.

The former has been in poor form of late, but would likely still command a significant fee, while Martial has been on loan with Sevilla since January.

Ten Hag will then be able to recruit new faces as he looks to build his own squad ahead of a crucial season for the club.

Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Ruben Neves are all listed as targets for the club.
