Jose Mourinho was sacked by Spurs on Monday, just in case you hadn’t realised amid all of the madness caused by the European Super League.

The former Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United manager was relieved of his services just a couple of days after Spurs lost yet another lead in their 2-2 draw away to Everton at Goodison Park.

However, Spurs only trail the top-four by two points and they won their first match under interim manager and former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason against Southampton.

They suffered an early scare through a pinpoint Danny Ings header fining the back of the net, but they fought back through goals from Gareth Bale and Son Heung-min.

Manchester City also await them at Wembley in the League Cup Final on Sunday as Spurs look to win their first trophy since the 2007/08 season.

However, reports from Italian news site AreaNapoli have indicated Argentinean midfielder Erik Lamela may be set to leave Tottenham after seven years at the club.

Lamela scored a magnificent ‘rabona’ goal against Arsenal

Lamela became Spurs’ record transfer when he was brought to the club from Roma by former manager Andre Villas-Boas, since making 254 appearances in spite of injuries and fluctuating performances.

It is believed representatives of the 29-year-old have met with Napoli and AC Milan as his future does not appear to be at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà told AreaNapoli: “The Argentine and his wife have the same desire: to return to Italy.

“Lamela, in all likelihood, at the end of the current football season, will leave Tottenham at end to try a new experience.”

The move will also depend if both AC Milan and Napoli are able to free up some space in their squads, with the latter in particular boasting an array of strong options in the wide positions with the likes of Hirving Lozano and Matteo Politano to call upon.
