Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca will be happy with the start his side have made to his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian took charge of the Blues over the summer, succeeding Mauricio Pochettino who had vacated the role by mutual consent at the end of last term.

Since then, Chelsea have won seven of their 11 games across all competitions, and they remain unbeaten in the Premier League since defeat against reigning champions Manchester City on the opening weekend.

That means the West London outfit sit fourth in the top flight table going into the international break, and Maresca will be optimistic about his side’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Off the pitch, one of Chelsea’s fringe players is said to be a target for a huge Italian club.

According to CaughtOffside, midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is being monitored by Serie A giants AC Milan.

The Englishman has featured just once this season – against Barrow in the Carabao Cup third round – and is expected to depart Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens in January.

The 20-year-old was told by Maresca that he wasn’t part of his plans early in the summer, but he was unable to find a move away from SW6.

Chukwuemeka joined the Blues from Premier League rivals Aston Villa in 2022 and has since made 28 appearances for the club, scoring twice.

The report claims that, as well as AC Milan, Crystal Palace have also shown interest in the midfielder.

He could also be offered an escape route via Saudi Arabia, with clubs in the Pro League believed to be interested.

Chukwuemeka’s contract with Chelsea has just under four years remaining on it, but it appears unlikely that he will remain at the club until then.

The central midfielder is, along with fellow countryman Ben Chillwell, among the most likely to leave Chelsea during the mid-season transfer window.
