According to Sky Sports Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic is closing in on a move to Zenit St. Petersburg.

The 32 year-old has agreed personal terms with the Russian side who sit second in Russia’s top division. Ivanovic will join for a free transfer and has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract, with an option for a further year.

The Serbia international is already familiar with the Russian league having spent time with Lokomotiv Moscow prior to his move to Chelsea in 2008.

West Brom had shown interest in the defender but it appears he wants to move closer to his home nation.

Ivanovic’s nine years spell at Stamford Bridge has seen him win every major trophy and over 250 league games with the Blues.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had hinted last week that the Serb’s departure was imminent.

Conte said: “He has played a lot of games for Chelsea and has won a lot here.

“He is 32 years old and can play many more years at the top level but it’s important to respect the player’s decision.

“If you are not playing a lot, you can make a decision to go to another team but, with respect for him, I am sorry to see him go.
