Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to sell France international forward Anthony Martial before the close of the European transfer window next week, according to the Daily Star.
The Premier League side, who suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, have been linked with offloading the left winger before the August 31 deadline.
The 22-year-old, who has 18 international caps for his country, but was not included in France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup winning squad earlier this summer, made his first competitive appearance for the club at Brighton at the weekend, but was replaced after 60 minutes.
Martial, who arrived at Old Trafford back in September 2015 following his switch from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco, in a deal worth up to £58m, has scored 36 goals in 137 games overall for The Red Devils.
However, the report claims United boss Mourinho has pleaded executive vice chairman Ed Woodward to get rid of the France forward before the close of the European transfer window next week.
The ‘Special One’ is not convinced the left winger is good enough to succeed at The Theatre of Dreams, and is looking to cash in on the former Monaco wonderkid and help raise funds for new signings in the January market.
But, Woodward disagrees with Mourinho’s stance, and won’t part with Martial for ‘less than top dollar’.
The pair are speculated to have a fractious relationship after an underwhelming summer transfer window for the club, with Mourinho not landing a top defensive target.
He is valued at £58.5m, and is contracted at United until June 2019.
