Tottenham striker Harry Kane fended off competition from Everton forward Romelu Lukaku to land the EA Sports Player of the Month award for February.

The England international scored four goals in just three league games to help Mauricio Pochettino’s men to two wins during the month, including a hat-trick in Spurs’ 4-0 dismantling of Stoke City a few weeks ago.

Those four strikes added to the assist he got for Dele Alli in the Stoke rout, and now means that he has won the award four times during his career, just two fewer than Liverpool’s former captain Steven Gerrard, who leads the way with six.

Kane netted the crucial penalty to overcome Middlesbrough 1-0 on February 4 before firing home a hat-trick against Mark Hughes’ Potters on February 26, and that was enough to see off Everton’s Lukaku, who scored five goals to help Ronald Koeman’s side to two wins and two draws during the month.

Manchester City duo David Silva and Gabriel Jesus, the latter of course scored three goals in three Premier League appearances during February, also missed out on the award, as did Hull’s heroic goalkeeper Elden Jakupovic and West Brom’s Gareth McAuley.

Kane will now hope that he is in good enough form to help Spurs close the gap on league leaders Chelsea, given that they are ten points adrift with just 11 games of the season remaining.
