Liverpool return to action after their midweek European exploits when they host Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Reds came from behind to defeat AC Milan in the opening round of Champions League fixtures on Tuesday, three days after being beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Arne Slot will hope to see his side return to winning ways in the Premier League, although the Cherries will undoubtedly provide a stern test for the Reds.

Ahead of the game at Anfield, it appears that Liverpool have been dealt a potentially huge blow.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT via Liverpool.com, full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has rejected a new contract offer from the club.

The 25-year-old is in the final year of his current contract with the Reds, and the report suggests that European champions Real Madrid are interested in signing him.

Alexander-Arnold has reportedly rejected a new contract offer from Liverpool

The England international is a product of Liverpool’s youth academy and has now played more than 300 times for the Merseyside club across all competitions.

Alexander-Arnold boasts a remarkable tally of 82 assists for the Reds, and he has also scored 19 times for the club.

He is widely regarded as one of the best attacking full-backs in world football, although more recently he has evolved into a central midfield role.

Despite the player reportedly rejecting a new deal, it is also claimed that the club’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, is not willing to give up on the player’s future and will continue attempting to tie him down to a long-term deal.

The club are therefore willing to make the Englishman one of the club’s highest earners, the report claims.

As well as Alexander-Arnold, teammates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also currently in the final year of their respective contracts, and those in charge will be keen to sort all three players’ futures sooner rather than later.
