Wahbi Khazri wants to join the exodus at Sunderland.

The midfielder has spoken to French newspaper L’Equipe and dismissed the prospect of playing in The Championship.

“I didn’t come into David Moyes’ thinking, and before he was sacked he told me clearly that I can leave,” he said.

“That suits me fine.  I can’t see myself staying – I don’t want to play in the Championship.

“I have three years left on my contract, and a transfer would suit everybody.”

Khazri played a big part in Sam Allardyce’s 2016 escape from relegation but was unable to repeat that with David Moyes.

Despite playing 23 times in the season just finished the Tunisian international claimed that he was overlooked by Moyes but feels refreshed having had a break from playing.

With widespread cuts across the club Sunderland will be happy to take in a transfer fee and cut themselves clear of the three years remaining on Khazri’s contract.

Moving to another Premier League club would appeal but the former Bordeaux and Bastia man would love the chance of a big money move to Marseille.

Sunderland haven’t made any moves yet to replace David Moyes but it’s believed that Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is an early contender for the job.
