Dejan Lovren was replaced at half-time on Sunday by Ragnar Klavan, and it’s unclear whether the former Southampton defender will recover from injury in time for the trip to the Riverside Stadium.

Regardless, Klopp may be looking ahead to the Merseyside derby next week, and could decide against starting Lovren anyway in a bid to minimise any possible injury repercussions.

Thus, Klavan deserves his fourth league start of the campaign.

Although he didn’t start the season brilliantly, the Estonian international performed well in the second-half on Sunday, and looked comfortable alongside Joel Matip at the back.

He could be drafted in from the start on Wednesday.
