Blackpool start the new season with the news that they face a three-point suspended penalty for the crowd disturbance which forced their final home game of last season against Huddersfield to be abandoned. They start life in the third-tier with an away trip to Colchester, hoping that their 18-game winless league run comes to an end.
Swindon, who fell at the final hurdle to Preston in last season’s play-off final, welcome Bradford to the County Ground. Manager Mark Cooper has recruited a raft of new signings to cope with the close season exodus, and his new-look side will look to get their campaign off to a winning start, whilst the visitors will also fancy their chances this term after recruiting the likes of Paul Anderson and Steve Davies.
Millwall are another side with promotion as their main goal this season – and will hope to start with three points away at newly promoted Shrewsbury. Neil Harris’ men know that they are amongst the favourites to go up this season after relegation, whereas for Shrewsbury, survival is the aim.
Sheffield United are hotly tipped to finally get promoted at the fifth attempt, and they too start their campaign off with an away trip – in this case, at Gillingham. Nigel Adkins is now at the helm, and with his experience of getting out of League One with both Scunthorpe and Southampton, only a win will satisfy the new man in charge.
Coventry welcome Wigan to the Ricoh Arena on Saturday knowing that the visitors will been keen to show their credentials after a torrid Championship campaign last season. The visitors will be hoping for an immediate term to the second tier, and their supporters will expect nothing less of Steven Caldwell’s men. The hosts, managed by Tony Mowbray, will also be hoping to challenge at the top end after avoiding relegation in 2014/15.
