Bolton Wanderers’ four-match winning streak in League One came to an end as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic.

Gary Madine put the visitors in the lead after some fine play by Liam Trotter on the right wing just before the hour mark. Yet, Ademola Lookman, one of the few bright sparks from the hosts’ previous campaign, equalised in the 90th minute with a wonderful 20-yard effort. The Trotters remain unbeaten though and still top of League One.

Gillingham came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Shrewsbury Town in what was one of the best Football League fixtures of the weekend. Louis Dodds’ brace had put the Shrews two goals to the good at half-time.

But the Gills’ Jay Emmaunel-Thomas continued his scoring streak with a double himself, with the second a contender for goal of the season, as he thumped home a 30-yard strike into the top right-hand corner. Before Max Ehmer pounced on a loose ball to net the winner in the 93rd minute.

Walsall also blew a comfortable lead this weekend, as they went 3-0 up at half-time only for Bury to repeat the feat in the second period as they drew 3-3. Kieron Morris, Simeon Jackson and Erhun Oztumer’s solo goal put the hosts in what looked to be an irreversible position.

Yet the Shakers, showed that they were no push-overs as Leon Barnett, Danny Mayor and James Vaughan, who finally ended his goal drought that saw him go without a single goal last season in his first appearance for his new side, completed the comeback.

Millwall continued to show the kind of form that saw them tipped as one of the favourites for promotion with a 3-1 victory at Chesterfield. Shane Ferguson’s low drive opened the scoring for the Lions, before Steve Morison added a brace to further extend their lead. Sam Hird pulled one back for the hosts.

Peterborough United scored in each half as they won 2-0 at Milton Keynes Dons. Andrew Hughes and Michael Bostwick were the scorers as Posh made it three league wins from five matches.

Port Vale dispatched of Scunthorpe United easily as they ran out 3-1 winners at home. Anton Forrester put the hosts ahead, before Josh Morris’ free-kick made it 1-1 at half-time. But, Alex Jones proved the difference maker with his second-half brace earning the Valients all three points.

Bradford City were unable to make it four wins in a row as they were held 1-1 at home by Oldham Athletic. Peter Clarke’s header put the visitors in front, before the Bantoms earned a point as Billy Clarke kept his nerve from the penalty spot.

Coventry City also drew at home with Northampton Town 1-1. Marcus Tudguy was the hero for the Sky Blues as he netted the equaliser from Jodi Jones’ cross, after Harry Beautyman opened the scoring.

Sheffield United won their first league match of the new campaign as they beat Oxford United 2-1. Kane Hemmings had given the Yellows the lead and looked to reap further misery on the Blades, but second-half strikes from James Wilson and Billy Sharp saw the hosts climb out of the relegation zone.

Fleetwood Town continued their positive start to life under Uwe Rosler, with a 2-0 victory at Southend United, who have now gone nearly five months without a home win. Chris Long and Ashley Hunter scored either side of the break for a comfortable win.

Rochdale left it late to score an equaliser as they denied AFC Wimbledon their first win of the season as the two sides drew 1-1. Andy Barcham’s header put the Dons in front, before visiting goalkeeper Ryan Clarke put the ball into his own net from Jamie Allen’s corner in the 95th minute.
