Bolton Wanderers won their first away match in 495 days after they beat AFC Wimbledon 2-1 in League One.

Andy Barcham’s well-timed finish had given the hosts the lead, but strikes from Gary Madine and Liam Trotter’s winner 20 minutes from time ended Phil Parkinson’s side’s dreadful record.

Gillingham are top of League One after a 2-1 win over Bury, as they maintain their winning start to the campaign.

The Gills went ahead through right-back Ryan Jackson’s effort in the first six minutes, before his dangerous cross in the second-half saw Antony Kay put the ball into his own net. Tom Pope pulled one back for the visitors, but the home side held on for all three points.

Port Vale comfortably defeated Southend United 2-0, as Anton Forrester proved why manager Bruno Ribeiro recruited him this summer. After putting the Valiants 1-0 up with a fine header, he later set-up Remie Streete to doubled their advantage.

Scunthorpe United came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Fleetwood Town. Eggert Jonsson and David Ball had given the Cod Army what seemed a comfortable advantage, but goals from Tom Hopper and Kevin Van Veen’s stunning 30-yard curling strike from the left-wing saw the Iron take a share of the spoils come the full-time whistle.

Chesterfield made light work of Swindon Town as they won 3-1. Gary Liddle and Jay O’Shea put the hosts ahead, before Ched Evans added a third. Darnell Furlong pulled one back for the visitors with a lovely effort, but it was too late.

Charlton Athletic came from a goal down to draw 1-1 at home to Northampton Town. Alex Revell’s header gave the visitors a half-time lead, which lead to booing from several sections of the home support, but Addicks captain Johnnie Jackson’s darting run and low drive earned them a point.

Milton Keynes Dons came from behind two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Millwall. Tony Craig and David Worrall looked to have given the Lions a second league with of the campaign, only for Kieran Agard to hit a first-half brace on his debut after joining the club on Thursday.

Bristol Rovers defeated fellow newly-promoted side Oxford United 2-1, thanks to goals from Jermaine Easter and Matty Taylor either side of Kane Hemmings’ equaliser for the U’s, as the Pirates earned their first three points of the new season.

Bradford City narrowly beat Peterborough United 1-0 away from home, thanks to Jordy Hiwula’s first goal for the club. The striker found the back of the net after just 12 minutes when he met Tony McMahon’s cross with a well-placed header.

Sheffield United came from a goal down to earn a respectable 1-1 draw with Rochdale, as both sides search for a league win continues. Andy Cannon had given Dale the lead, before Billy Sharp scored with nine minutes left to play.

Meanwhile, Oldham Athletic drew 0-0 with Walsall in a match where both sides should have scored, after creating a host of chances.

And finally, Coventry City were also held to a 0-0 draw at home to Shrewsbury Town, who are both yet to win in the league this season.
