Walsall moved up to third and kept themselves in the automatic promotion hunt with a 2-1 win away at fellow play-off side, Gillingham.

After two straight defeats, the Saddlers hopes of catching the top two looked slim but goals from Milan Lalkovic and Jordy Hiwula put them back in contention as they moved above the Gills, Millwall and Bradford City in the League One standings.

Jon Whitney’s side are now just five points behind Burton Albion with a game in hand. Luke Norris, who missed a first half penalty, netted in injury-time for Justin Edinburgh’s side as they drop to sixth.

Barnsley closed the gap on the top six after a 2-1 victory over Oldham. A brace from Sam Winnall, the second from the penalty spot, was enough to move the Tykes to within three points of the play-off places. The Latics, who had equalised through Curtis Main, remain in the relegation fight and are still just two points above the drop zone.
