Player of the Month: Matt Green (Mansfield Town)

Mansfield’s excellent start to the season owes a lot to the skill and finishing of forward Matt Green.

In his second spell at Field Mill, the 29-year-old has proved a real handful for League Two defenders, managing more shots than any other player in the division.

An 89th minute winner at Leyton Orient was his third goal of the season, but his trickery was perhaps most evident in his assist for Mitch Rose’s opener in the 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town.

If the Stags can keep Green fit, they could end up as one of the season’s surprise packages.

Manager of the Month – Jim Bentley (Morecambe)

Often tipped to struggle in the league, Jim Bentley’s Morecambe side have raised a few eyebrows with a terrific start to proceedings that has seen the Shrimps end the month top of the table with twelve points from a possible fifteen.

They recovered from a disappointing opening day defeat to Grimsby Town with back-to-back wins against Blackpool and Portsmouth, before picking up a 1-0 win away at Yeovil Town.

Their bubble appeared to have burst when they found themselves 2-0 down to Accrington Stanley, but a double from Carl Stockton either side of a strike from the experienced Kevin Ellison ensured their flying start continued.

They’ve experienced decent starts before, only to eventually fall away, and while time will tell if the same thing happens again this season, the fans at the Globe Arena will be delighted with the way Bentley and his team have begun this term’s proceedings.

Goal of the Month: Stephen O’Donnell (Luton Town)
