Player of the Month: Gareth Evans (Portsmouth)

Pompey’s 27-year-old winger has been a key player for the South Coast team this season, having scored six times in 21 appearances since joining from Fleetwood in the summer. Four of those goals came in December, with the most crucial one being a 33rd minute equaliser in a 2-1 away win at Northampton which saw Paul Cook’s side close the gap on the automatic promotion places. If the Fratton Park outfit are to finally get back to the higher level they’re used to, Evans will almost certainly play a vital role.

Manager of the Month: Darrell Clarke (Bristol Rovers)

Despite overseeing the tail end of their surprise relegation in 2013, Darrell Clarke is proving to be something of an excellent appointment at the Memorial Ground. Having guided Rovers back into the Football League at the first attempt, they made a solid if unremarkable start to life in League Two this season. In December though, they really kicked on and into the play-off places. The Pirates played five league matches all month – the joint highest in the division – but dropped just two points and conceded only two goals in that time. The 38-year–old commented that “their finishing must improve” at the end of November, and he addressed that issue with 10 goals in five games.

Goal of the Month: Jobi McAnuff (Leyton Orient)
