Doncaster Rovers thrashed Morecambe 5-1 away from home in League Two, with James Coppinger the star of the show in his 500th appearance for the visitors.

Strikes from Andy Butler and John Marquis put the visitors 2-0 up, before Cole Stockton pulled one back for the Shrimps. But, second-half efforts from Marquis, Matty Blair and the wonderfully driven 25-yard shot from Coppinger completed the rout.

Portsmouth also comfortably won on Saturday as they defeated Wycombe Wanderers 4-2. Paul Hayes had put the visitors in front, before Christian Burgess and Gary Roberts put Pompey 2-1 up, yet Hayes equalised with a sensational finish with the outside of the his right boot. Conor Chaplin and Carl Baker however netted one each as the hosts move up to second in the table.

Colchester United came from a goal down to beat Blackpool 3-2, in one of the Football League’s most entertaining matches this weekend. Armand Gnanduillet gave the Tangerines the lead, but a Chris Porter double, topped off with a fine strike from Sammie Szmodics ensured the U’s all three points, despite Brad Potts’ late goal.

Carlisle United came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at home to Leyton Orient. Charlie Wyke netted for the hosts, either side of Paul McCallum and Harry Cornick efforts for the O’s, before Danny Grainger converted a penalty with four minutes remaining.

Newport County also came from behind twice against Cheltenham Town as the match finished 2-2. John Parkin’s brace for the hosts, cancelled out Asa Hall and Daniel Wright’s strikes for the Robins.

Crewe Alexandra continued their fine start to the season with a 2-0 victory at home over Exeter City. Chelsea loanee Alex Kiwomya and Danny Hollands were the goalscorers for the Railwaymen, who move up to sixth.

Grimsby Town ended Luton Town’s six-match unbeaten run in the league as they won 2-1 away from home. Omar Bogle again showed signs that he can excel in the Football League with another brace for the Mariners, as he opened the scoring, yet Glen Rea equalised with a thumping effort from the edge of the penalty area, before Bogle headed in the winner with seven minutes left.

Barnet won their second league match of the campaign with a 1-0 victory at Mansfield Town. John Akinde scored the match’s only goal when he burst through the Stags’ defence before applying a calm finish into the bottom corner.

Accrington Stanley put an end to Notts County’s four-game unbeaten run with a 2-0 win away from home. John O’Sullivan and Romuald Boco were the goal scorers, netting in the first and second-half’s respectively.

Plymouth Argyle went top of League Two after narrowly defeating bottom side Cambridge United 2-1. Graham Carey and Jordan Slew, who scored his first goal for the Pilgrims, put the hosts two goals to the good, before Medy Elito pulled one back for the visitors.

Stevenage Borough won for the second time in a week as they dispatched of Crawley Town 2-1. Tyler Walker put the hosts in front with his third strike in two games, before Jack King doubled their lead. James Collins tried to spark a revival for the Red Devils in the 86th minute, but it was too late.

And finally, Hartlepool United scored in stoppage-time to win 2-1 at Yeovil Town. On-loan AFC Bournemouth midfielder Matt Butcher had given the Glovers the lead, before a Nathan Thomas brace meant Pool claimed their second league win of the campaign.
