Oxford United enhanced their chances of automatic promotion from League Two after their convincing 4-0 thrashing of bottom club Dagenham and Redbridge.

A hat-trick from the club’s top scorer Kemar Roofe, and one from Alex MacDonald, earned victory in a very dominant performance. The U’s remain in second and move three points clear of third placed Plymouth Argyle. Meanwhile the Daggers stay rooted to the foot of the table and are still nine points from safety.

Oxford’s attacking midfielder Roofe now has 25 goals in all competitions this season.

Survival was the issue as Newport played hosts to Hartlepool. A 0-0 draw moves both clubs closer to staying in the Football League next season. The Welsh side are up to 17th and relegation threatened Pool are now eight points above the drop zone.
