With the top three all not in action, the play-off hopefuls took centre stage on Tuesday night.

Portsmouth took full advantage with a 3-1 win away at Accrington. Kyle Bennett, Michael Doyle and a Matt Pearson own goal had the visitors in command before the interval. Shay McCartan netted Stanley’s consolation as they drop to sixth. Meanwhile, Pompey move above Accrington and up to fourth,  just six points off the automatic promotion places.

Bristol Rovers moved into fifth with a 3-1 victory over seventh-placed AFC Wimbledon. Jermaine Easter and Ollie Clarke put the Pirates ahead, before Jon Meades pulled one back early in the second half. Matt Taylor’s 18th goal of the season curtailed any hope of a comeback. The Dons, who ended the night with ten men after Adebayo Akinfenwa’s red card, stay in seventh.

Bottom club Dagenham and Redbridge picked up a point after a goalless draw with Carlisle. Daggers are stuck to the foot of the table and six points from safety. The Cumbrians remain in 11th, but move to within two points of the top seven.

The final game of the evening ended in defeat for Newport, as they lost 3-0 at home to Barnet. First half goals from Andy Yiadom and Mark Randall put the Bees ahead, before a Darren Jones own goal completed the scoring. The Welsh outfit are still in 19th, while Martin Allen’s team are just seven points from the play-offs.
