Championship side Leeds United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Guingamp forward Yannis Salibur, according to reports in France (via Sport Witness).

The 26-year-old enjoyed a fine campaign with the Ligue 1 outfit, netting eight goals and laying on four assists in 35 league appearances to help the club to tenth place in the French top-flight, their joint-highest finish since returning to the top tier in 2013.

And there’s little doubt that Salibur, a former France youth international, has played a significant part in their excellent campaign, yet it may well be his last at the club as reports suggest that he could be on his way to England this summer.

And that’s because Garry Monk’s Leeds are reportedly keeping tabs on the Frenchman having come close to signing him last summer, only for the 26-year-old to opt for another season in Ligue 1.

In fact, Salibur reportedly said recently that he was open to a move to England, and this is sure to interest a Leeds side still reeling from a woeful run of form at the end of their Championship campaign to dethrone them of a play-off place.

Monk’s men were well-lodged inside the top six for much of 2017, only for a run of two wins from 11 games to end the season to see Fulham leapfrog them into the play-off places, and eventually finish seventh and five points adrift of Slavisa Jokanovic’s Cottagers.

And Monk, should he remain in charge at Elland Road, will surely be looking at how they can take that extra step next term, and bringing in a prolific forward like Salibur, proven in one of Europe’s top leagues, could be exactly what is needed to sustain a promotion push next season.
